Notes

In this article, the author sets out to describe the main issues affecting the social economy in Quebec and the rest of Canada. He believes that this type of economy, basing itself on a renewed social-democratic approach, could ultimately have the effect of transforming capitalism for the better. In his view, the Quebec government, spurred on by social-economy advocates, has already given increasing recognition to it. At the federal level, Chrétien and Martin supported it while Harper more recently has been neglecting it. As for scholarly research on the topic, it has grown over the past few decades. In addition, networking among social-economy organizations has increased tremendously in the recent past, both within and beyond Quebec's borders. In conclusion, the author hopes that his article will motivate readers to reflect on and discuss some of the issues that he raises.
